News Report: Week 1

The evening news report is hard to miss, with the giant TV screens on some of the larger buildings displaying the report so that even those without a TV or phone to watch on can stay informed. Anyone walking, stuck in traffic or taking the train will likely see the broadcast at least once, if not twice as they head home for the day.

"In tonight's top stories, the trend of bad luck in the mining sector continues as there was yet another explosion in the Quarry. Witnesses reported seeing men covered in black and white spandex wearing masks and ran for cover. Multiple explosions shook the area, but there were no reported casualties, and only minor injuries.

Officials are advising motorists to avoid central downtown and to take public transportation when at all possible as an excess amount of cars on the roads caused yet another major traffic jam. This was compounded by a scuffle between police and an unidentified man that witnesses claim was shooting acid from his hands. Other witnesses claim it was not a man, but a monster, but official police report state it was most likely someone in a costume.

In other news, Specialty Reconstruction Services Group reports that the damage caused by what was most likely a gas explosion on a filming studio lot has been mostly repaired. Overnight work will be required to finish the job, however, and residents in the area are advised to wear earplugs and blindfolds to avoid interrupted sleep.

Cafe owners are putting out a plea to local residents to place be careful when passing by their establishments. Multiple reports of plastic patio furniture being destroyed by what some have called overzealous neighborhood watch efforts have lead to some cafes giving up on outdoor serving all together.'

While the news broadcast may seem rather innocuous, there is one decidedly odd feature. In the upper right hand corner, the placard that shows the time and date seems... strange. The date itself is oddly unreadable, despite looking like it should be able to be read easily. In fact, most people seem to be able to read it just fine, but when they say it aloud, it simply can't be heard. Or at least, not by anyone who can't see the text on the screen....

Meanwhile, back at the Quarry, it would seem that the mooks who'd caused the day's explosion have returned, undeterred to finish the next stage in their big plan. What that plan is is anyone's guess, but whatever it is, it's not likely going to be good. In either definition of the word.

"Zi-O?" That was definitely not a name Eiji recognized. He'd only just met Build and Cross-Z. But if it was 2019, okay, yeah, that would make sense.

But at the second part, he shakes his head. "You must have me mixed up with my father, or one of my brothers. I just travel. I'm not in the government."

It's a little hasty a denial, but he really doesn't want to get into this mess right now. Or ever, honestly.

"Zi-O, the newest Kamen Rider. Like I said, weird memories," admitted Takeru. "I spent three years with different memories and a whole different timeline. I forgot I was Ghost or any of my friends or anything like that."

He nodded, knowing that Eiji had apparently issues, things he didn't want to get into apparently but he didn't pry. That whole mess right now with the Timejackers and Zi-O was running deep.

"Did you find out anything about this place?" asked Takeru, changing the subject for Eiji's sake. "Nothing supernatural to blame?"

Eiji nods a little hesitantly. None of that makes sense, but, well, what does with Riders?

"We fought some Shocker goons, but that's about it so far. I'd think that they might be behind this, but even with time travel, it seems a little...low key for them?"

"Seems pretty low key yeah," said Takeru, thinking of the last time he fought Shocker.

"The last time I fought Shocker, was when Hongo-san was in town and we almost lost him. It was a miracle that he revived let alone was able to battle once more. This seems very low key for them."

Eiji is actually really impressed to hear all this about fighting alongside Hongo. After all, the first Rider is a legend. The part about "revival" does get a bit of a worried look, but then, if there was anyone who would beat the odds, it was Hongo.

"And I feel like he might have already shown himself if this was entirely Shocker. Maybe they didn't plan on this? Or some kind of other enemy creating dummies again?"

"It could be. When I was fighting Shocker, they split into two factions; Shocker and Nova Shocker with two different goals in mind. World Domination and Global Energy Control. But when the leader lost control of himself with the Alexander Eyecon, Hongo, Ambassador Hell, Makoto-niichan and I teamed up to defeat him." explained Takeru, rubbing his head. "This seems a little too unfocused for anything that's on Nova Shocker's scale right now to be similar to get Hongo involved right now."

"Hongo rode off after that. I think he managed to come back after he died for a while. I dunno how, but... from what I know about his legendary status as a Rider? He's tenacious and I guess he was called back. Kind of like a phoenix."

Eiji nodded, frowning. "I see. Nova Shocker sounds a lot like Foundation X that way--merchants of death, obviously, but Foundation X was really into controlling the world's energy sources for a while."

It could have been Foundation X again--they tended to just pop up and surprise everyone, and Eiji had just been lucky to have stumbled onto what they were doing before it could get any further along, considering they were usually W's enemy.

He gave Takeru a smile. "That wouldn't be the first time he's come back from something he shouldn't have. If there's only one thing that Shocker does get right, it's not to underestimate him."

"It might have been an old plan they scrapped then." Surmised Takeru. "In any case, they're disbanded, and probably re-absorbed into the old Shocker. For whatever that might bear, they're out of Japan again. Which is good for us."

Takeru chuckled faintly. "Yeah. Hongo's pretty tough. I'm sure he wouldn't falter at all. Not all after this."

"Hopefully it stays that way," Eiji added.
