News Report: Week 1
The evening news report is hard to miss, with the giant TV screens on some of the larger buildings displaying the report so that even those without a TV or phone to watch on can stay informed. Anyone walking, stuck in traffic or taking the train will likely see the broadcast at least once, if not twice as they head home for the day.
"In tonight's top stories, the trend of bad luck in the mining sector continues as there was yet another explosion in the Quarry. Witnesses reported seeing men covered in black and white spandex wearing masks and ran for cover. Multiple explosions shook the area, but there were no reported casualties, and only minor injuries.
Officials are advising motorists to avoid central downtown and to take public transportation when at all possible as an excess amount of cars on the roads caused yet another major traffic jam. This was compounded by a scuffle between police and an unidentified man that witnesses claim was shooting acid from his hands. Other witnesses claim it was not a man, but a monster, but official police report state it was most likely someone in a costume.
In other news, Specialty Reconstruction Services Group reports that the damage caused by what was most likely a gas explosion on a filming studio lot has been mostly repaired. Overnight work will be required to finish the job, however, and residents in the area are advised to wear earplugs and blindfolds to avoid interrupted sleep.
Cafe owners are putting out a plea to local residents to place be careful when passing by their establishments. Multiple reports of plastic patio furniture being destroyed by what some have called overzealous neighborhood watch efforts have lead to some cafes giving up on outdoor serving all together.'
While the news broadcast may seem rather innocuous, there is one decidedly odd feature. In the upper right hand corner, the placard that shows the time and date seems... strange. The date itself is oddly unreadable, despite looking like it should be able to be read easily. In fact, most people seem to be able to read it just fine, but when they say it aloud, it simply can't be heard. Or at least, not by anyone who can't see the text on the screen....
Meanwhile, back at the Quarry, it would seem that the mooks who'd caused the day's explosion have returned, undeterred to finish the next stage in their big plan. What that plan is is anyone's guess, but whatever it is, it's not likely going to be good. In either definition of the word.

*"Ah, familiar technology," sighed Gridman with a little tinge of relief in his voice and Hibiki made a "Huh?" noise. "I resided in a much older cobbled together computer back in the 90s called Junk once before."
"Noise are ancient alien monsters that appeared throughout the ages. I guess they're native only to my world, so when I saw there's no sign of them here, I really must be in another world."
no subject
"Noise?" Tachibana repeated, eyebrow raising slightly he he held the door open for her to pass through. The hallway behind very much resembled that of a hospital, white tile floors and sterile walls broken up by doorways with yet more control panel locks labeled things like "Lab 104-A" and hooks with white lab coats.
He frowned slightly as she explained, giving a small nod. "I haven't heard of any true encounters with beings from other worlds," he confirmed. "Everyone we've investigated has turned out to be a manifestation of something more localized."
He paused outside a door reading "Control and Observation" that held a second, much larger sign under the window: "Authorized entry ONLY. See Operations for Access."
Without more than just a glance, he swiftly tapped another code onto the locking panel, causing the lights behind the buttons to swap from red to green as there was a loud click of the lock being undone.

*"Hibiki, still, your world is still in need of your help, as with this one. Bring me to a terminal, I can access it from here." said Gridman.
Turning to Tachibana, she asked, "Can I see a terminal? There's something I need to do."
no subject
"...a terminal?" he repeated, frown returning. "I can get you a laptop, but all the computers here contain confidential and classified information, so I can't just let you access them."
You know. Despite allowing her past two locked doors already and being willing to let her into the main control room. But that was entirely different.
The door's control panel flashes red twice before the door locks again.

*"I have a preference for older the better," said Gridman, with a fond, nostalgic tone in his voice.
"The junkier the better. As long as it can plug in."
no subject
"Everything in here is new as of... two years ago, I think. 2012 or 2013, I believe is when we officially moved in," he reflected, holding the door open to allow Hibiki to follow him in.
The room was somewhat small, compared to the older control room. A line of monitors on one counter all displayed the BOARD logo and a log-in prompt, as did a much larger one mounted on the wall. It was to the desk in the center, however, that Tachibana moved towards, as that one had the tower it was plugged into in a far more accessible area.
A moment later, he held out the monitor cable, entire expression confused, yet curious.

Finding a computer, she went to the closest monitor and said, "Go ahead, Gridman."
There was a flicker as the closest computer monitor flickered and the screen changed to a pure white background for a short moment, before a form appeared on the screen. "Hello," said Gridman, his voice coming through the room speakers. "I am Gridman, a Hyper Agent. I am speaking to you now through the connection with Hibiki and the Accepter on her arm. She and I are connected. Thank you for letting us use a screen to communicate with you, Tachibana."

Still, the formality of Gridman's speech was enough to put him at ease and he nodded, posture shifting to one that was far more boardroom appropriate.
"You were the one she was speaking with before, I assume?" he asked glancing between the screen and Hibiki.
no subject
"We met in my world," said Hibiki. "But he left a while ago. I don't know why he's back to be honest, but I'm glad to see him again."
"It seems that the threat of our worlds colliding is not yet over with." said Gridman. "Unfortunately, Samurai Caliber, Boor, Vicc and Maxx cannot be here with us. And I do not sense Gridknight either."
"They're our companions," said Hibiki. "They're a group of teenagers in dark school uniforms. "They're really nice people too. They go to the Neon Genesis High School."

Gridman touched a hand to his chest. "My allies and I chased the source of this power down to Hibiki's world, and I gave Hibiki the power to fight these Kaiju."
"It was really cool. At first it was scary because I grew 30 stories tall. But then I turned into Gridman." said Hibiki with a grin.

"So... you're experienced with traveling between worlds? Other reality style worlds?"

and database applications.
"What other locations were different?" he asked, starting to plot points onto the map. "I have the data readings for this location going back roughly 8 years, so if there's any alterations in the base energy, they'll be easy to identify and use to check for patterns in other locations."
no subject
She made a face. "Gridman, is there anything like that here that you could think of?"
"Not many of these places," replied Gridman. "When I was working years ago with Naoto, Yuka and Ippei back in 1993 my memory would only go so far as that. And I spent most of my time in the Digital World. What I have is dated at best for Tokyo of 1993."

He paused, frowning as he zoomed in on the map, not... really sure what he was even looking for, if he were being honest. "Where would this music arena be? Do you know the address?"
Or alternately, if she could spot it on the map while he enlarged the image hoping to spot either place she referred to, that would help as well.
no subject
Gridman frowned as he tried to peer from where he was in the monitor. "I wish I had access to the computer to help, but my knowledge of the outside world is limited as well."
no subject
He glanced up at Gridman, hesitating before getting to his feet. "There should be a space laptop in the closet. It's not connected by default to the internal database and network, but to the more public wifi," he explained, opening one of the smaller side doors and looking inside.
"...Older ones are better for you, right?" he asked, almost absentmindedly as he moved a few things aside.
no subject
"It seems like the computer that he resided in back in 1993 or so was built by hand and spare parts," said Hibiki.

...with a cow-print sticker with a milk company logo on it.
"This is the one that Kotaro borrowed, last time he went abroad," Tachibana explained with a nod, holding it out to Hibiki to take before reaching back to get the power cord and charger. "I believe the network password was updated not too long ago, it should connect."
